“Óscar Arias Sánchez is the current President of Costa Rica and the first Nobel Laureate to be elected a nation’s president after winning the award. In 1987 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the civil wars then raging in several Central American countries. He served as President from 1986 to 1990, and was elected for a second term in a close election in 2006. He is also a recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism and a trustee of the Economists for Peace and Security. In 2003, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Criminal Court’s Trust Fund for Victims. “
